Focus Features has announced that it plans to release The Bikeriders on June 21, 2024, with Universal Pictures handling international distribution. Written and directed by Jeff Nichols, the movie will star Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy and Norman Reedus.
According to a press release, the film will follow “the rise of a midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.” Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh will produce the film through Tri-State alongside Fred Berger and New Regency.
Focus Features plucked The Bikeriders after Disney decided not to release the film anymore when it was surprisingly pulled out of Awards season after premiering in several film festivals. New Regency and Disney had a strong relationship with their recent collaboration, The Creator, which had been released in theatres when the studio decided to pull The Bikeriders off its release date.
It is the latest addition to what looks to be a highly-promising slate for the studio in 2024, which includes Sam Taylor-Johnson‘s Back to Black, Robert Eggers‘ Nosferatu, Edward Berger‘s Conclave, Zelda Williams‘ Lisa Frankenstein, Kobi Libii’s The American Society of Magical Negroes, Baltasar Kormakur‘s Touch and Goran Stolevski‘s Housekeeping for Beginners among others.
