Michael Waldron to Write ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’

With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania not being as well-received as Marvel Studios thought it would, Marvel Studios has let go of Jeff Loveness in his writing duties for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and is now tapping Michael Waldron to write the fifth Avengers film, alongside Avengers: Secret Wars, to which he was already attached.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who was initially attached to direct the project, left The Kang Dynasty two weeks ago to focus his work on Wonder Man, which will resume filming soon, and the upcoming sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Cretton will direct at least two episodes of the upcoming Marvel Spotlight series alongside Stella Meghie and James Ponsoldt.

Marvel has been very impressed with Waldron’s work, having served as showrunner for the first season of Loki, before leaving the Disney+ show to work on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Sam Raimi. It is unclear who will direct The Kang Dynasty since Cretton’s departure, but Marvel is reportedly looking for the same filmmaker to helm both upcoming Avengers films, which will bow out in theatres in May 2026 and 2027, respectively.
