Don’t Expect a ‘Barbie’ Sequel Anytime Soon

Barbie, as you’re reading this, has probably crossed the one billion dollar mark at the box office. So, obviously Warner Bros. is gearing up for a sequel? Well, not so fast. The power brokers who made this a smash hit in filmmaker Greta Gerwig, plus stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, aren’t signed for anything else. They’re free agents and a sequel is a long way from even being discussed. More below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, no one has any deals lined up or options for a Barbie sequel. That doesn’t mean one won’t ever happen, but between that and the strikes, it’s kept any real talk of one down. It’ll be massively expensive to get Gerwig, Gosling, and Robbie back, with potentially only Robbie even likely. Gerwig can probably make any film on the planet she wants now, while Gosling is averse to franchises/sequels. So, stay tuned, but now, just enjoy Barbie as a one-off movie. For now.
