‘Challengers’ Trailer Showcases Zendaya in a Tennis Love Triangle

The trailer for the latest Luca Guadagnino film is here. Challengers, written by Justin Kuritzkes, stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor in a romantic drama set within the world of professional tennis.

The synopsis for Challengers says the movie follows: “Tashi, a tennis player turned coach, has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event — close to the lowest level of tournament on the pro tour. Tensions soon run high when he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.

Zendaya stars as Tashi, with Faist as Patrick and O’Connor as the man from their past. It’s shaping up to be another project from Guadagnino that could definitely wind up in the awards conversation. Challengers hits theaters on September 15th, presumably after a festival debut earlier than that, at some combination of the Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, or Venice Film Festival.
