Guillermo del Toro to Direct ‘Frankenstein’ for Netflix: Oscar Issac, Mia Goth & Andrew Garfield In Talks to Star

According to Deadline, Guillermo del Toro is close to finalizing a deal to direct his latest movie, Frankenstein, for Netflix. The director recently won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature with Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio with Netflix, and the studio would want to collaborate with the director again.

No formal deal has been made for any of the lead actors to star in the movie, but Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, and Mia Goth are currently in talks to act in del Toro’s first live-action film since Nightmare Alley. Alongside directing the film, del Toro is currently writing the screenplay.

Like Pinocchio, the filmmaker had wanted to adapt Frankenstein for a long time, but it is unclear if this new adaptation will be a period piece or set in modern times. Goth would be playing Victor Frankenstein’s love interest, but it’s unknown whether Garfield or Isaac will play the titular character. Either way, it will be interesting to see what del Toro does with the material and readapt it in a more thoughtful and creative light.
