New Trailer for ‘Empire of Light’ Sees The Magic of Moviemaking

Searchlight Pictures

The new trailer for Sam Mendes Empire of Light has been released. Written by Mendes, the movie stars Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Colin Firth, Toby Jones, Tom Brooke, and Tanya Moodie.

Its plot synopsis reads, “Set in an English coastal town in the early 1980s, EMPIRE OF LIGHT is a compelling and poignant drama about the power of human connection during turbulent times.”

Additionally, a new poster was released in conjunction with the trailer, which you can look at below:

Our editor-in-chief Joey Magidson saw the movie at Telluride, and said that the film is “a warm treat to the special feeling some of us get when we enter a cinema. For me, I literally grew up in movie theaters, my grandfather having been a projectionist. Both times that Mendes’ lovely new film goes in side the booth of the theater at the story’s heart, I was brought to tears. This takes nothing away from the lovely romance at the flick’s core, but the love letter that made me swoon most was to the building where the flickering lights are held. Either way, Mendes has crafted his warmest work to date here, without question.” You can read his full review of the film here.

You can watch the trailer below and see the film only in theatres on December 9:
