This nominations for this year’s edition of the European Film Awards were announced this morning, and three films are taking a clear lead. The first of those titles would be Ruben Östlund‘s Triangle of Sadness, which won the prestigious Palme D’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Next on the list you can find Lukas Dhont‘s Close, which won the Grand Prix at the same festival at the beginning of this summer.
And last, but not least, Ali Abbasi‘s Holy Spider also has been nominated in four different categories, creating an interesting and competitive film for the ceremony that will take place on December 10th. The films which are major contenders for these awards are also considered as strong candidates for next year’s Academy Awards.
Although last year’s nominees for the European Film Awards weren’t similar to those selected by the Academy, previous years have demonstrated that these are clear indicators of where the awards season is headed. Films such as The Worst Person in the World and Belfast have received EFA nominations before landing nods at the Academy Awards.
