Interview: The Cast of ‘Reasonable Doubt’ on Hulu’s New Drama

Reasonable Doubt premieres tonight on Hulu. The new legal drama tells the story of Jax Stewart (Emayatzi Corinealdi), an attorney based in Los Angeles who isn’t afraid to step up to any challenge. Between her very demanding job and her complicated personal life, she must find balance to take care of the people she loves.

Awards Radar had the opportunity of speaking with the cast of the show, who were excited to talk about their new series. Raamla Mohamed (the show’s creator and showrunner) and Emayatzy Corinealdi shared where the inspirations for Reasonable Doubt came from, while Sean Patrick Thomas, Michael Ealy, and McKinley Freeman discussed their characters journeys. Angela Grovey and Tim Jo talked about what aspects of their characters’ personalities they liked the most.

When asked about what the inspiration behind the show was, creator and showrunner Raamla Mohamed said: “Kerry Washington, Larry Wilmore had met with this woman, Shawn Holley, who is a badass defense attorney. They really liked this idea of doing a show about her and her job. So, they came to me and we talked about it.”

We asked McKinley Freeman what made his character’s relationship with the protagonist so complicated, and this is what he had to say: “It’s real and it’s honest. (The writers) created a world that is very tangible. You read the words, and you see yourself in these words, these characters, and in their friends.”
