Simu Liu Joins Netflix’s ‘Atlas’ as the Villain

Simu Liu has officially joined the cast of Atlas, a new Netflix film directed by Brad Peyton (Rampage, San Andreas). After playing the titular hero in last year’s box office hit Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Liu will join this production in a villainous role.

Atlas is also the name of the protagonist of this story. A woman fights against an artificial intelligence in the future because it believes that the only way to stop an ongoing war is to get rid of all of humanity. To confront this powerful enemy, Atlas must confront one of her greatest fears, joining forces with another artificial intelligence.

The latest draft of the movie is being written by Aron Eli Coleite, based on Leo Sardarian’s original version of it. The film’s cast also includes Jennifer Lopez, Sterling K. Brown and Abraham Popoola. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell will serve as producers for the project through Safehouse Pictures.

Taking on a villainous role has been just the latest move from Liu to diversify his career. He will star in next year’s Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. The movie recently wrapped production and is reported to have a budget of around $100 million.
