First Footage From HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ Unveiled

HBO

The first footage for HBO’s adaptation of the hit video game, The Last of Us, has been revealed via a promotional video for HBO Max. The highly anticipated series is scheduled to debut next year, and the directors list for the project includes names such as Jeremy Webb, Ali Abbasi and Kantemir Balagov.

The game tells the story of Joel (played on the show by Pedro Pascal) a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (portrayed in the series by Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. It was first released in June of 2013 to very good reviews and fan acclaim. A film adaptation had long been in development, until HBO acquired the rights in 2020 and finally began filming in the summer of 2021.

The short video in which the footage debuted was released on the eve of the release of House of the Dragon, HBO’s widely anticipated prequel to one of their flagship television shows, Game of Thrones. The ad also indicated that a second season of Our Flag Means Death will premiere at some point next year.
