FX Renews ‘The Bear’ for a Second Season

FX has ordered a second course of The Bear.

FX dramedy The Bear earns a quick season two renewal for more episodes to stream on Hulu as a part of the FX on Hulu content hub. The series dropped on Hulu on June 23rd with an eight-episode 30-minute long season.

Executive producers, co-showrunners, and directors Joanna Calo (Hacks, Undone) and Christopher Storer (Ramy, Eighth Grade) commented on the renewal in a statement to Deadline. They shared, “we are so grateful to FX, our insanely talented cast, our crew who worked hard, fast, and in the dead of winter, not to mention everyone who watched.”

“The Bear has exceeded our wildest creative, critical and commercial expectations,” FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier. He continued, “we deeply appreciate the brilliant work led by Creator and Co-Showrunner Christopher Storer and Co-Showrunner Joanna Calo. Jeremy Allen White’s lead performance is spectacular, as are those of his co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas. We can’t wait to get to work on season 2.”

Season one of The Bear followed chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), who returned to his family’s Chicago sandwich shop following the death of his brother. Carmy is left to manage the kitchen while maintaining fraught relationships with his family and kitchen staff while processing his grief and the complex relationship he had with his late brother.

Co-starring in the series is Ayo Edebiri, who plays Sydney Adamu, a skilled and meticulous chef with hopes of turning the restaurant around. Edebiri received a mention on The Boston Globe’s list of must-see TV performances for her work in the series. Additional cast members of The Bear include Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls) as Richard ‘Richie’ Jerimovich, Lionel Boyce (Hap and Leonard) as Marcus, and Liza Colón-Zayas (In Treatment, David Makes Man) as Tina. Supporting players in The Bear include actors Edwin Lee Gibson (Fargo) as Ebraheim, Corey Hendrix (The Chi) as Gary, Richard Esteras (Shameless) as Manny, Jose M. Cervantes (Shining Girls) as Angel, Abby Elliott (Saturday Night Live) as Natalie ‘Sugar’ Berzatto, Matty Matheson (Workin’ Moms) as Neil Fak.

The Bear is also executive produced by Rene Gube (Superstore, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Nate Matteson (Station Eleven), Hiro Murai (Atlanta, Barry), and Josh Senior (Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel).
FX will release the second season of The Bear in 2023.
