Interview: Ben Foster Discusses the Hopeful Message of ‘The Survivor’

Ben Foster is one of the best actors in the business. No matter what you see him in, his commitment, intensity, and screen presence is impossible to ignore. Something like Hell or High Water several years ago perfectly showcases his skills, and he was a major Oscar snub. So, when The Survivor was first announced, it seemed like a film destined to get Foster his Academy Award nomination. While the movie was picked up by HBO and is competing instead in the Emmy race, it’s still a project that gives him one of his best roles, while being a great flick just on its own. A few days ago, I shared my conversation about The Survivor with director Barry Levinson (here). Today, it’s Foster’s turn.

Below, you can see my chat with Foster. We’ve spoken several times over the years, and literally bumped into each other once in New York City (on my birthday, no less), there’s a familiarity between us. It’s been a busy year, release wise, for Foster, with The Contractor and just recently Hustle, in addition to The Survivor. The biopic is where we focused, but there’s also some conversation just about life here. Foster is a lovely man, one I always look forward to talking with, and this is absolutely no exception…

Here now is my interview with The Survivor star Ben Foster. Enjoy:

The Survivor can be seen on HBO and HBO Max right now!
