Throughout his career, John Cameron Mitchell has done a ton. An actor, director, playwright, and screenwriter, Mitchell has had a hell of a career. Best known for the 2001 cult film Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as well as 2010’s Rabbit Hole, he’s got about as unique a voice as it gets. Interestingly, he’s mostly thought of as a director, but has a huge filmography, acting-wise. Notably, his recent turn as Joe Exotic in Joe vs. Carole has generated some Emmy buzz for him. Plus, with him soon to been in The Sandman, Mitchell is about to be in front of a lot of eyeballs. Recently, I sat down with him on Zoom to talk about it all. Today, the audio of that conversation comes your way!
Below, you can hear my discussion with Mitchell. We met to talk Joe vs. Carole but his entire career, both in front of and behind the camera, ended up being the focus. He’s a fascinating guy, quick to be rather honest about the work, and that always makes for a good chat. Be sure to listen next, but also check out the show on Peacock. Especially if you’re not familiar with Mitchell as an actor, you’re in for a treat…
