Interview: Gary Oldman Discusses the Charm of Television and His Work on ‘Slow Horses’

There aren’t many actors in the business who commit more than Gary Oldman does. When he takes on a role, he dives right in. The Academy Award for Darkest Hour is just one example of this. Now working on television with the spy thriller series Slow Horses, it plays as an interesting companion piece to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the film that got him his first nomination. Watching Oldman, whether in movies or on TV, is a treat, so when I got the chance to talk to him last month during his Emmy push, it was something I jumped at. Today, you can see our conversation, and trust me, it’s a real treat…

Below, you can see my discussion with Oldman. We talk about Slow Horses, of course, but I was just absolutely delighted to get the chance to pick his brain, in general. Go figure, despite the intense characters he plays, Oldman is quick to laugh and very generous with his time, so we went off in all directions. I made sure to mention The Contender, a personal favorite of mine, but we chat about plenty of his performances. He even has a great story about the toll Darkest Hour took on him. Overall, it’s a great example of why an Oscar winner like him would gravitate towards prestige television like Slow Horses. If you haven’t seen the show, it’s streaming on Apple TV+ now, so give it a shot!

Here now is my interview with Oscar winner and Slow Horses star Gary Oldman. Enjoy:

Slow Horses can be seen on Apple TV+ and has just been renewed for more seasons!
