First Trailer for ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande’ Drops Online

The first trailer for Sophie Hyde‘s Good Luck to You, Leo Grande has been released online. Written by Katy Brand, it stars Emma Thompson, Daryl McCormack, and Isabella Laughland. A critical darling at Sundance, the film’s U.S. distribution rights were picked up by Disney and Searchlight Pictures for a release on Hulu on June 17th.

Its plot synopsis reads “In GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE, two-time Academy Award winner Emma Thompson (Love, Actually) embodies the candor and apprehension of retired teacher Nancy Stokes, and newcomer Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders) personifies the charisma and compassion of sex worker Leo Grande. As Nancy embarks on a post-marital sexual awakening and Leo draws on his skills and charm, together they find a surprising human connection.”

Our editor-in-chief Joey Magidson saw the movie at Sundance and said that the film is ” a showcase for Emma Thompson, and of course she deserves it. If you’ve wanted to see her embrace womanhood in a new way, that’s on display here. It also gives her a younger foil, leading to some solid laughs. The turns towards drama and seriousness aren’t as smooth or effective as the lighter moments, but the product being presented here is one you’re going to be charmed a great deal by.”
