‘The Hunger Games’ Prequel ‘The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes’ To Release in 2023

Yesterday at CinemaCon, Lionsgate wrapped the convention and announced the official release date of The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes. An adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘ book of the same name, it will be released on November 17, 2023.

No details on who will be a part of the movie, but Hunger Games veteran Francis Lawrence is back in the director’s chair. This feels like a risky bet, with the Harry Potter franchise now fizzling out after its third Fantastic Beasts film directed by David Yates, but The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes is a standalone film and will not open the door for more sequels in the future…unless Collins writes another Hunger Games-driven book that’ll inevitably be adapted into film.
