According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will be reuniting once again. This time, they’re teaming up to make a film about the true story of former Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro, which will be distributed by Amazon Studios and Skydance Sports. The studios are reportedly finalizing a deal.
Affleck would be directing, writing, and co-starring in the film with Damon, who will be playing Vaccaro. The Bourne Identity actor will also co-write the film with Affleck and act as a producer. Affleck will be playing Phil Knight, and the plot of the movie will center around Nike’s effort to sign Michael Jordan to the company around the mid-80s, with Vaccaro on a “relentless quest” to ink the player to an endorsement deal.
It’s reported that Jordan will not be seen in the movie, but be perceived as a mythic figure, hovering around the movie, and the film will instead follow Nike, specifically Vaccaro. The movie will mark the first time a production is co-distributed by Skydance’s new division, Skydance Sports, after they recently opened Skydance Animation last year, with the release of the short film Luck on Apple TV+.
