Warner Bros. is hoping to mine diamonds with the announcement of a live-action Minecraft movie starring none other than Aquaman’s Jason Momoa, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Momoa reunites with Dune producer Mary Parent and The Lego Movie producer Roy Lee in the film, to be directed by Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess.
Debuting in 2011, Minecraft reached 100 million users in just a few years after its launch. The popular video game from Sweden has been one of the biggest games for over a decade, and there seems to be no stopping its dedicated fanbase.
With the success of Sonic and Sonic 2, we’re seeing video games adaptations invading the big screen. However, in particular, Minecraft will have film and video game fans wondering how they will adapt a pixelated, block-based game into live-action.
