Barry Jenkins and Issa Lopez to Work on ‘True Detective: Night Country’

HBO is currently looking to revive True Detective without Nic Pizzolatto at the helm. Should a fourth season go through, he is expected to be credited as executive producer, but will not be involved in any capacity.

A new season, titled True Detective: Night Country, is currently in the works from Issa Lopez (known for Tigers Are Not Afraid) and Barry Jenkins. Lopez is currently writing the script and would direct the pilot if the season gets picked up, while Jenkins is acting as executive producer. Lopez would also executive produce, and act as co-showrunner with Jenkins.

The deal has not yet been set in stone, and it is unclear if season four will actually get made (no actor is currently attached to the project), but it’s certainly an exciting venture for both creators who have already proven themselves to be highly talented at making gripping television. Time will tell if we will indeed see a fourth season materialize and release on HBO.
