Back in 2017, comedian Jordan Peele took the film world by storm when he released his directorial and writing debut within the horror genre in the form of Get Out, a film that was darkly chilling and spoke about timely themes while also being surprisingly comedic.
It was the first sign of many that Peele was more than just a comedian. Two years later – in 2019 – he released his sophomore feature Us, which followed a woman named Adelaide Wilson and her family, who proceed to get attacked by a mysterious group of menacing doppelgangers.
Ever since then, audiences have been wondering when they’d be able to get a taste of what’s to come in Peele’s next film NOPE. Today, after several months of waiting, the first official trailer has arrived and proves to be just as mind-numbingly weird as you expected.
You can take a look at the trailer here:
NOPE follows a group of residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. Other than that, the plotline to Peele’s next film is being kept purposefully vague.
The film – written and directed by Peele and co-produced by Ian Cooper as part of the Monkeypaw Productions banner – stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, Brandon Perea, and Barbie Ferreira.
NOPE is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures in theatres on July 22, 2022.
