Interview: Tim Roth Chats About Acting and ‘Sundown’

Tim Roth is one of those actors who just is rock solid in anything and everything he does. Not only that, he’s also a hell of a director. If you’ve never seen his movie The War Zone, it’s impossible to forget. Of course, he’s best known for his Academy Award nominated role in Rob Roy, as well as numerous collaborations with Quentin Tarantino. Recently, he’s repeatedly teamed up with filmmaker Michel Franco, the latest collaboration of which being Sundown. Recently, Roth was made available for press in the lead up to this new flick’s release. I made sure to find the time for that, so now we can present that talk to you all.

Below, you can hear my conversation with Roth. We met to spoke about Sundown, a movie which he ironically has yet to see in its entirety. In some cases, that can make a chat harder, but here it actually freed us up to talk about even more. So, we also bring up Tarantino, as well as The War Zone. It’s a wide ranging discussion, but a good one, if I do say so myself…

This is some of what I said about Roth in my Sundown review:

The performance by Tim Roth ropes you in. He gives you so little of what’s going on in the character’s mind, letting it be revealed in tiny drips. It’s undoubtedly frustrating, but it builds to something actually rather touching. Roth does so much with just minor expressions. It’s the type of work you appreciate when you see. He’s also really the only character we spend much time with.

Here now is my interview with Sundown star Tim Roth. Enjoy:

Sundown is available to watch this weekend in theaters, starting on Friday!
