Interview: Naomie Harris On the Emotional Power of ‘Swan Song’

Naomie Harris has the ability to be in literally anything. Whether it’s big blockbusters or small independent fare, she’s comfortable being on screen, regardless of the size. Indies like Moonlight, which scored her an Academy Award nomination in Best Supporting Actress, or this week’s Swan Song, show how she can bring big emotions while dealing with a small budget. On the flip-side, blockbusters like the most recent James Bond films (including No Time to Die), as well as earlier this year’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage, have managed not to swallow her up. So, she’s clearly doing something right. As Swan Song begins its rollout, I’m pleased to present a conversation she and I had a month or two ago over Zoom.

Below, you can hear my conversation with Harris. While she had basically just wrapped up promoting No Time to Die, it did seem like talking Swan Song was a breath of fresh air for her. We got into the challenges and emotions of the project, as well as the pleasure that was working so closely opposite Mahershala Ali. It’s a mellow and really informative chat, which should make you even more interested in seeing the movie. It’s science fiction, but with a dramatic and emotional bent. The flick is available to stream on Apple TV+, so if you’re interested, it’s easily accessible.

Here now is my interview with Swan Song star Naomie Harris. Enjoy:

Swan Song is out this weekend!
