Interview: Abigail Breslin Talks ‘Stillwater’

Abigail Breslin, in case you forgot, is an Academy Award nominated actress. Cited for an Oscar nomination for her breakthrough work in Little Miss Sunshine, Breslin is a talent. Whether it’s in one of the Zombieland movies or a prestige film, she has a vibe about her that’s very warm and makes you want to see more of her. Breslin’s latest performance, i the Tom McCarthy flick Stillwater, is another such example. Last week, during the junket for the film, II got the chance to talk to Breslin. Well, as you might imagine, Awards Radar lept at the chance to speak with an Academy Award nominee.

Matt Damon leads a really solid cast here. Damon, alongside Abigail Breslin and Camille Cottin, deliver complex and full bodied performances. This is an honest yet empathetic depiction of a conservative, middle America man, with all the benefits and faults that come with it. It’s not showy, but it does come off, ultimately, as one of Damon’s best performances. Breslin makes the most of her limited screen time, imbuing her character with an edge as well as humanity. You want more with her, and that’s a credit to Breslin.

I spoke to Breslin about Stillwater, hitting on working with Matt Damon, among other things. She was very nice, taking the time to do this after a long day of press. She’s rarely been this good, so be sure to check out the film, as well as this chat…
