Earlier this year, acclaimed filmmaker Zack Snyder not only released his vision of Justice League, which ended up being four hours long, but also a zombie war epic titled Army of the Dead, which performed extremely well critically and commercially on streaming giant Netflix. So much so, that we know a sequel is already in development with Snyder set to return to write and direct.
But before we get that highly anticipated follow-up, we will also be getting a brand new prequel movie in Army of Thieves that depicts the early life of small-town bank teller Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) who previously appeared as a major character in the aforementioned Army of the Dead.
Fans don’t have to wait long to see a glimpse of the prequel – in fact, a trailer is out right now online, as you can see below. Interestingly, Army of Thieves is being billed as a romantic comedy-heist film rather than a zombie film like its predecessor. Don’t worry though, the film will still have some zombies in it, but they will definitely take a back seat this time around.
Additional cast members include Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Jonathan Cohen, Noemi Naki, and Peter Simonischek. The film will be directed by Schweighöfer and written by Shay Hatten.
