Neill Blomkamp returns to feature films after a hiatus following his most recent film, Chappie. The District 9 and Elysium director’s new film, Demonic, is his take on the horror genre, with his usual sci-fi twists thrown into the mix.
The story follows a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed.
The film’s cast includes Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, Michael Rogers, Terry Chen, and Nathalie Boltt.
The film, also written by Blomkamp, was shot in mid-2020, when the pandemic was in full swing. It features a patent-pending method of volumetric capture (three-dimensional video technology that turns actors into geometric objects). Demonic boasts the most volumetric capture seen in any film before it.
