Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners Strikes Deal With Netflix

Acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg and his company Amblin Partners have just struck a deal with streaming juggernaut Netflix – one that is set to change the course of Hollywood releases as we know it.

The partnership, which was just recently announced, will see Amblin Partners, lead by Steven Spielberg, produce several new original feature films for the platform every year from here on out. This is surely going to come as exciting news to Spielberg fans as we will be receiving a wide array of films the acclaimed director has worked on and will prove as an excellent marketing strategy for Netflix as well.

This news may come as a surprise to many, seeing as how Spielberg made comments publicly in 2019 ahead of the annual Academy Awards ceremony, stating how streaming films should be barred from being eligible from awards. It seems as though the past two years have changed his mind and he is now on-board with streaming platforms, and ever since COVID-19 changed the way we watch cinema, it makes sense.

Netflix and Amblin Partners have worked with each other in the past though, with the latter producing last year’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 which went on to be a critical and commercial hit.

“By deepening our ties with Netflix via this new film partnership, we are building on what has for many years been an incredibly successful working relationship in both television and film,” Amblin Partners CEO Jeff Small stated. “The global platform they’ve built — with more than 200 million members — speaks for itself, and we’re extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work closely with Scott and his amazing team to deliver Amblin’s iconic brand of storytelling to the Netflix audience.”

Scott Stuber, one of Netflix’s CEOs stated “Amblin and Steven Spielberg are synonymous with incredible entertainment. Their passion and artistry combine to make films that both captivate and challenge audiences. We look forward to working with Steven, Jeff and the entire Amblin family on a new slate of films that will delight generations for years to come.”

Amblin have recently released a number of hit movies including Green Book, 1917, and The House with a Clock in Its Walls. For more information about films Amblin will be producing with Netflix, stay tuned to Awards Radar.
