Some sad news today, as the legendary actress Olympia Dukakis has passed away at the age of 89.
Olympia’s brother Apollo Dukakis shared the news in a post on Facebook, saying “My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, passed away this morning in New York City. After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her Louis.”
Louis refers to her late husband Louis Zorich, who passed away in 2018 after an impressive 56 years of marriage.
Just last year, Dukakis was the subject of the documentary Olympia, a tribute to and examination of her life and career.
Dukakis began her film career in 1964 with a small part in the film Twice a Man. She would go on to star in pictures as wide-ranging as Working Girl, Steel Magnolias, Away from Her, and the Look Who’s Talking series.
Of course, she is best known on screen for her Oscar-winning performance in the 1987 picture Moonstruck.
