Amazon Picks Up Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Hero’

Amazon Studios is getting back in the Asghar Farhadi game, as Variety is reporting that the studio has acquired the U.S. rights to the filmmakers latest project, A Hero

The studio previously handled the Farhadi’s 2018 picture The Salesman, which went on to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Certainly, all parties involved would love to see that happen again here.

That Oscar was the second win for Farhadi, who previously won the same award for his 2011 film A Separation, largely considered one of the best films of the past decade.

A Hero is currently in post-production after a shoot in Shiraz, Iran, and Amazon Studios plans to release it during this year’s awards season with an eye for a 2022 awards splash. It’s also one of many films being tipped for a potential debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

While plot details are being kept under strict lock and key, Memento Films International (who have produced Farhadi’s last three movies and team up with him again here), have said that the story “tackles many contemporary issues of our modern societies”. Sounds like a Farhadi movie to us.
