Another big festival announcement today, as Film at Lincoln Center have set dates for the 2021 New York Film Festival. The 59th edition of NYFF will take place from September 24 to October 10 this year.
One of the first of last year’s fall festivals to successfully implement a virtual program last year in adapting to the impact that COVID had on festivals, NYFF will be making this year’s fest a hybrid of in-person and virtual screenings.
This could perhaps be a sign of festivals moving into new territory in the future, as it brings back the appeal of in-person theatrical showings while also allowing the increased accessibility that we’ve seen over this past year with festivals adopting virtual programming.
As part of the date announcement, the festival has also officially opened up submissions for this year’s fest, with an entry fee of $45 for any submission during the eligibility period of April 21 through May 24.
While COVID is still very much an element in play and could drastically change any plans that are currently being set in motion, it does look like we’re seeing film festivals for 2021 starting to figure out what their plans are going to be for their events this year.
