After 15 years, Todd Field is finally returning to the director’s chair, as Deadline has announced that the filmmaker is teaming up with Cate Blanchett for a new film titled TAR.
Set up at Focus Features, details on TAR are scarce at the moment, with Deadline only reporting that it takes place in Berlin and production will begin this September.
There’s been no indication of TAR being based on any preexisting material, which would make it Field’s first original feature script.
Whatever the plot ends up being, the return of Field is a major source of excitement for the movie world. The filmmaker acted in films like Walking and Talking and Eyes Wide Shutbefore making his directorial debut with 2001’s In the Bedroom, an indie sensation that was nominated for 5 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for Field. He followed that up with Little Children five years later, which earned 3 more nominations, including another Adapted Screenplay nod for Field.
Since then? Nothing. Many have been awaiting his return, and they’ll be eager to see what has brought him back to our screens, especially with an actress like Blanchett in the leading role.
It’s one of many exciting projects the actress has lined up at the moment, with Pinocchio, the Guillermo Del Toro helmed Nightmare Alley, Adam McKay’s star-studded Don’t Look Up, and Borderlands from Eli Roth all currently on her upcoming slate.
