Interview: Steven Yeun Talks ‘Minari’ and Choosing Roles

It doesn’t take a long glance at Steven Yeun‘s filmography to realize that he has excellent taste. Yeun is able to see that such varied works as Burning, Okja, and especially Sorry to Bother You, are all worth his time. The latter is one of the most creative works of the past decade, bar none, so he knows a good script when he sees one. A leading role doesn’t come along for Yeun too often, unfortunately, so seeing him in Minari was obviously a pleasure. So too was it a pleasure to speak to him about the film a few weeks ago. Today, it’s a delight to bring that chat to you all.

Below, you can hear my interview with Yeun. Minari (my review of which can be found here) is obviously the main topic of discussion, but I did make it a point to bring up Sorry to Bother You. We didn’t have a ton of time, but even with the limited window to talk, it was still fascinating to hear him talk about how he chooses his roles. This movie is just further proof that he knows quality material when he sees it. For those who love the flick, and judging by the precursor season, that’s a lot of folks, this is a pretty interesting conversation about why it works so well. Give it a listen and be sure to check out the film, if you haven’t done so already…

Here now is my conversation with Minari star Steven Yeun. Enjoy:

Minari is in theaters now and on VOD this Friday!
