‘Nomadland’ Finds More Friends in Iowa

The Iowa Film Critics Association have handed out their awards for what they consider the best in film from the past year, and it’s another big day for Nomadland. 

The Chloé Zhao picture made an impressive run on the field, earning wins for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Frances McDormand), and Best Score (Ludovico Einaudi). 

Other winners included Yuh-jung Youn in Supporting Actress for Minari, which scored a runner up slot in Best Film and Best Song. Sound of Metal also had a strong showing, with a win in Supporting Actor for Paul Raci, along with runner up positions in Best Film, Best Director (Darius Marder), and Best Actor (Riz Ahmed).

Runners up: Viola Davis – “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and Carey Mulligan – “Promising Young Woman”

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Paul Raci – “Sound of Metal”

Runners up: Bill Murray – “On the Rocks” and Leslie Odom Jr. – “One Night in Miami”

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Yuh-jung Youn – “Minari”

Runners up: Olivia Colman – “The Father” and Amanda Seyfried – “Mank”

BEST ANIMATED FILM: “Soul”

Runners up: “Over the Moon” and “Wolfwalkers”

BEST DOCUMENTARY: “Dick Johnson is Dead”

Runners up: “Crip Camp” and “The Dissident”

BEST SCORE: Ludovico Einaudi – “Nomadland”

Runners up: James Newton Howard – “News of the World” and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross – “Mank”

BEST SONG: “Speak Now” – “One Night in Miami”

Runners up: “Green” – “Sound of Metal” and “Rain Song” – “Minari”
