It would have been easy for The Map of Tiny Perfect Things to underwhelm. Coming hot on the heels of Palm Springs, the romantic riff on Groundhog Day had an uphill battle to find relevance. Luckily, the work from stars Kyle Allen and in particular Kathryn Newton give you something to really latch on to. The premise is amusing, sure, but their work has a ton of heart, and that makes all of the difference. As such, I was more than up for the opportunity to spend some time discussing it with them. We conducted the interview over Zoom, but we’re presenting the audio to you today (I desperately needed a haircut, so consider yourself lucky you won’t see me looking especially shaggy).
Below, you can hear my chat with Allen and Newton. While the focus is mostly on their latest flick, I do briefly mention Blockers and Freaky, which have convinced me that Newton is going to be a big star. I’ve already raved about the latter (here), so it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that I was fond of her in this flick, too. Both of them were delightful to talk to, easygoing and happy to talk about whatever. It was a good time, if I do say so myself.
Here now is my conversation with The Map of Tiny Perfect Things stars Kathryn Newton and Kyle Allen. I hope you enjoy:
