It’s hard enough to film at all during the pandemic, but to film a feature film secretly during a pandemic is a real achievement, one that apparently has been accomplished by writer/director Sean Baker. Variety reports that Baker has just finished shooting Red Rocket, a new film that he had been filming under wraps in Texas. A dark comedy starring Simon Rex (Scary Movie), Red Rocket is Baker’s first film since 2017’s critical darling The Florida Project.
Plot details are still unknown, but Baker co-wrote Red Rocket with Chris Bergoch, who also co-wrote The Florida Project as well as Baker’s other critically-acclaimed films Tangerine and Starlet. The news comes as such a surprise and the shooting done in such secrecy that even IMDB, considered the be-all-end-all for film credits, has been caught off guard, as there is no trace of the film listed anywhere on the site.
