As official jockeying for positioning in the soon-to-be-heated Oscar race begins, Netflix has announced that all seven main actors in Aaron Sorkin’s lauded historical/political drama, The Trial of the Chicago 7, will be submitted for Academy Award consideration in the supporting actor category, according to The Hollywood Reporter (article found here). While not a total surprise considering the fact that the film is a legit ensemble piece, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance and Jeremy Strong all now vying for the same five spots.
Moreover, this is happening in a year when other ensemble dramas have strong supporting performances, including Da 5 Bloods and One Night in Miami…, the category could end up being the most competitive ever.
Stay tuned to see how the supporting players from The Trial of the Chicago 7 end up faring during the awards season!
