Oscar Ratings Down 9% From Last Year As 17.9 Million Viewers Tune In

The ratings for the 98th Academy Awards are in. Sunday’s show was broadcast on ABC and streamed on Hulu, so there were multiple spots that viewers could tune in. How did the Oscars do? Well, the ratings from Nielsen are down, albeit while still being the most watched primetime entertainment telecast of this season. More below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar telecast was watched by 17.9 million people. While that’s plenty of viewers, it’s still down 9% from last year, making for the lowest total since 2022. With a move to YouTube two years away, it’s likely we’ll see the numbers continue to go down, though all awards shows have seen their ratings dip the past few years. It just seems to be the way things are going, hence the imminent move to streaming.
