Yes, you’ve read this correctly: Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis has officially come out of his seven-year retirement to star in Anemone, the feature directorial debut of his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. The father/son duo co-wrote the screenplay, which will also star Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, Samantha Morton, and Sofia Oakley-Green.
Focus Features will distribute the movie, and production is currently underway. The movie will explore intricate relationships between fathers, sons, and brothers, and so it’s only fitting that Day-Lewis would want to return to acting for a movie like this, closely working with his son on the project.
In a statement, Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said, “We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator. They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”
No release date has been announced, but one definitely looks forward to see this perhaps next year, with a massive awards push coming? Who knows, but it’s certainly great to see one of the best actors to have ever done it having (at least) one more project left in him. Truth be told, the only person that could push him out of retirement was his son, and look what’s happening now!
